Features: China has taken a winding path in the protection and development of historical and cultural cities. The transformation and development of Chaoyu and Fuxing Avenues in Beijing serve as a typical case. Gathering wisdom and exploring the path of preserving and reviving traditional urban areas is a historic mission for decision-makers, planners, and architects. Approved by the Beijing Municipal Government, the Beijing Municipal Planning Commission organized the urban design research and scheme consultation for Chaoyu and Fuxing Avenues in Beijing, inviting institutions such as Tsinghua University Urban Planning and Design Institute, Japan Urban Planning Consortium, China Urban Planning and Design Research Institute, GMP Germany, and the Landscape Design Department of Beijing Municipal Institute of Architectural Design to participate in scheme design. All the submitted schemes were publicly exhibited, and expert evaluations were organized, attracting widespread attention and enthusiastic discussions both within and outside the industry. This book compiles the competition schemes of the aforementioned institutions, presenting a cohesive overview that highlights the main themes while showcasing the unique styles of each participant. It avoids repetition while preserving the essence of the original works, bringing the most compelling parts to the readers.
