Features: This book The Characteristics of Art, edited by Professor Yi Zhongtian, was published by our press in October 2002. Originally, it was part of the "Introduction to Social Sciences Series" organized and published by the Fujian Provincial Academy of Social Sciences. As one of Professor Yi’s academic works, it has been overshadowed by the vast sea of books, which is truly a pity! Today, Professor Yi has gained widespread fame for his lectures on the "Three Kingdoms," making him a household name. As a result, many mistakenly believe he specializes in history. However, Professor Yi, though knowledgeable in many fields, primarily focuses on aesthetics. His representative works include On Aesthetic Thought, The Symphony of Yellow and Blue—A Comparative Study of Chinese and Western Aesthetics (co-authored with Deng Xiaomang), and others. The Characteristics of Art uses his (consistent) yet seemingly effortless and humorously vibrant writing style to explain the characteristics of craft, architecture, drama, film, and literature in an accessible manner. Today, we are republishing this book edited by Professor Yi Zhongtian to allow readers to gain a more comprehensive understanding of him. For this republication, in addition to correcting typographical errors in the text, we have also added some illustrations to help readers better understand and enjoy the book more easily.
