What causes sepsis?

Patient's question:

I suddenly developed an ingrown toenail two years ago, which grew into the flesh. Later, I tried to trim it myself with nail clippers, which wasn't very professional. At the time, I ended up cutting my skin. Since then, this problem of the nail growing into the flesh has occurred frequently, and I've been trimming it myself every time, but it always results in broken skin. I'm worried about whether it might lead to sepsis.

Doctor's answer:

Paronychia will never lead to sepsis. The causes of paronychia include ill-fitting shoes, cutting toenails too short, previous trauma to the toes, and avoiding picking at sharp protrusions with your hands. If there is a broken skin in the paronychia, take precautions against infection, such as applying iodine for anti-inflammatory purposes. If there is pus, incision and drainage are necessary. If the infection has affected the subcutaneous tissue around the base of the nail, make longitudinal incisions along both sides of the paronychia, remove the nail root without damaging the nail bed, as this can affect the growth of new nails and lead to deformities. In terms of diet, consume more fruits and vegetables.
