Is sciatica treated with closed needles?

Patient's question:

I don't know what's wrong, the sciatica pain makes it impossible for me to walk. My colleague said that closed-loop needles can help. Does sciatica pain require closed-loop needle treatment?

Doctor's answer:

Sciatica cannot be treated with corticosteroid injections. Multiple occurrences of sciatica are mostly due to a lumbar disc herniation, which subsequently compresses the nerve, leading to repeated sciatica attacks. Additionally, another common cause of recurring sciatica is piriformis syndrome. For lumbar disc herniation, lumbar traction can be performed. If the cause is piriformis syndrome, cold therapy and massage can be applied, or acupuncture and physical therapy can also be effective.
