Does neonatal jaundice affect muscle growth?

Patient's question:

Three days after birth, Dr. Huang checked and said it was 11 days later that the jaundice level became 1, so blue light rescue was needed. The baby cried for three days and couldn't eat. Does neonatal jaundice interfere with growth?

Doctor's answer:

Physiological jaundice is not pathological jaundice. Newborn jaundice normal values are based on serum bilirubin as a reference index. Full-term infants should not exceed 204 μmol/L (12 mg/dL), and preterm infants should not exceed 255 μmol/L (15 mg/dL) to be considered normal. Children with physiological jaundice, in addition to yellow skin, have no significant problems in appetite and mental state, and symptoms usually resolve completely within one month. Children with pathological jaundice not only have yellow skin but also cry, fuss, and refuse to eat. In this case, parents must take the child to the hospital as soon as possible for evaluation, as it may lead to kernicterus.
