Is it normal for a baby to laugh frequently?

Patient's question:

My baby is over a year old and was premature, but all his physical indicators have returned to normal. He's just a bit smaller than his peers in size. However, recently I've noticed some unusual behaviors in him and I'm worried it might be something like dementia.

Doctor's answer:

Laughing frequently doesn't necessarily mean weakness. It is recommended that parents pay close attention and observe the baby's every move. If, in addition to frequent laughter, there are no other abnormalities, it is also advisable to take the child to the hospital for a check-up. Mental retardation, also known as mental retardation (MR), refers to a condition where intellectual development is significantly below the average level during the developmental period, accompanied by a decline in recovery. The aforementioned developmental period refers to the age of 18. The so-called significantly higher than the average intelligence level refers to an IQ below the normal average by two standard deviations (i.e., above 70).
