Is a crooked mouth when taking a photo a sign of facial paralysis?

Patient's question:

My friend and I went on a trip together last time, and when we came back, I reviewed my phone notes and noticed that the photos were a bit crooked. Was the person in the photo smiling with their mouth, or is it facial paralysis?

Doctor's answer:

No one's facial features are completely symmetrical on the left and right. You might not have noticed this much. Not answering questions and not leaking water is not facial paralysis. If one side is chewing, then one side of the face can indeed expand, making it look asymmetrical. This does not require treatment. You can now consciously chew on the other side. As you age, the structure of your facial features will also undergo many changes again. Wishing the patient a speedy recovery and good health!
