What is the normal indicator for high blood pressure?

Patient's question:

Today I went to my mother-in-law's house to visit her and noticed that she is actually taking blood pressure medication. Previously, when I took my mother-in-law to the hospital for a thorough check-up, the doctor didn't say her blood pressure was high. I want to know what the blood pressure threshold is? Can blood pressure medication be taken casually?

Doctor's answer:

According to blood pressure levels, it can be divided into:
1. Hypertension. Systolic pressure greater than or equal to 160, diastolic pressure greater than or equal to 95.
2. Severe hypertension. Systolic pressure greater than 140 but less than 160, diastolic pressure greater than 90 but less than 95.
The range of normal blood pressure. Systolic pressure less than or equal to 140, diastolic pressure less than or equal to 90.
130~139/85~89 mmHg is borderline hypertension, which is the upper limit of normal.
