Does rest help with high blood pressure?

Patient's question:

Doctor, I have been particularly busy with training recently, so I'm very tired. I often work overtime and haven't had much rest. Today, when I measured my blood pressure, I found that it was much higher than the normal value. I would like to ask, does the recurrence of high blood pressure have anything to do with poor rest?

Doctor's answer:

Hypertension is a serious disease that poses a significant threat to human health. If long-term blood pressure cannot be effectively controlled, it may very likely lead to the recurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Resting improperly can cause blood pressure to drop, and occasionally having high blood pressure does not necessarily mean you have hypertension. You can wait for a period of rest before measuring your blood pressure. If your blood pressure remains high on multiple occasions, it is possible that you may have hypertension, and active treatment is necessary.
