Is anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis rare?

Patient's question:

I don't know what the reason is, but recently I've been experiencing dizziness and a decline in memory. My friend said my symptoms might indicate that I have anti-NMDA encephalitis. Is anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis very rare?

Doctor's answer:

One or more of the six symptoms mentioned above reappear in clinical manifestations; anti-NMDA IgG antibodies are positive; other possible causes can be ruled out: antibody tests should include cerebrospinal fluid. If only serum samples are available, antibody tests should be repeated after initially being positive, and should be repeated again before the antibody test is confirmed as positive until the condition is determined.
