Features: Chinese history is always hastily turned over, but the problems remain unresolved. The rich heritage is permanently stored, wrapped in issues, while the aspirations for the future inevitably lead to a destiny of frustration. The 1980s should not be so easily forgotten, and Bei Yang still holds significant meaning and value for re-reading. Recently, Suzhou Guwu Studio Publishing has shown keen insight by publishing Bei Yang's The Ugly China of the 21st Century. We can now "legitimately" and calmly read this extraordinary book that has shaken the Chinese world. Our ugliness stems from our ignorance of our own ugliness. The renowned Taiwanese writer Bei Yang, with a "wring one's heart over one's failure" attitude, strongly criticizes the "dirty, chaotic, noisy," "in-fighting," "lack of unity," and "refusal to admit mistakes" of the Chinese people. He points out that there is a contagious disease in traditional Chinese culture that has infected our descendants, and it has not yet been cured even today. This is yet another traditional work of reflection. Author Bei Yang bluntly points out the various vices, negative traits, and narrow-mindedness of the Chinese people, aiming to make them confront and have the courage to face them. Despite the author's harsh criticism and blame of the Chinese people, he fundamentally believes that China can still be saved. He hopes the Chinese people can undergo a transformation, becoming a nation with dignity, just like other civilized countries, that respects human dignity.
