How long does it take to treat Kawasaki disease

Patient's question:

The child is 4 years old. Recently, they were diagnosed with Kawasaki disease at the hospital, so I am worried about my child's health and feel sad that it might not be cured. Therefore, I want to know how long it takes to treat Kawasaki disease?

Doctor's answer:

Kawasaki disease is an acute febrile exanthematous pediatric disease characterized by systemic vasculitis, which is the main pathological feature. The main symptoms include persistent fever, bilateral conjunctival congestion, cleft lip and palate, palatal cleft or peeling, and a strawberry-like tongue. A maculopapular rash or polymorphic exanthem may reappear shortly after the fever. The duration varies. The first stage of the disease course is acute fever, with an average duration of 1 to 11 days. The second stage is subacute, generally lasting 11 to 21 days. The majority of patients enter the third stage, the recovery period, around the fourth week, with an average duration of 21 to 60 days.
