Is newborn jaundice related to the mother?

Patient's question:

My daughter has been yellow for four days since her birth, and she is in the incubator for check-ups. The doctor said it is mild jaundice, but I don't know what's going on. Hello, is newborn jaundice related to the mother?

Doctor's answer:

Neonatal jaundice can be caused by many factors, and hemolytic jaundice due to incompatibility between maternal and fetal blood types is one of them. Hemolytic jaundice caused by blood type incompatibility mainly occurs when the mother's blood type is O and the baby's blood type is A or B, or when the mother is Rh-negative and the baby is Rh-positive. Neonatal jaundice requires close monitoring. If the monitoring data is not high, there is generally no major issue. It usually resolves on its own within about 2 weeks. If the indicators are below the normal range, the cause should be investigated and additional treatment should be administered.
