Can the patient undergo bone marrow transplantation?

Patient's question:

My relative's child is 23 years old this year. Unfortunately, a thorough examination revealed that they have true red disease. Now, they want to seek treatment, so I would like to ask you a few times if it is possible to undergo bone marrow transplantation?

Doctor's answer:

The self-healing cells in bone marrow are a group of cells that divide and differentiate rapidly. Since chemotherapy drugs cannot distinguish between normal cells and leukemia cells, chemotherapy also has toxic effects on the normal self-healing cells in the bone marrow of leukemia patients. Patients often cannot tolerate high-dose chemotherapy, which aims to kill leukemia cells as much as possible, and die from severe complications caused by the weakening of the self-healing system. If the chemotherapy dose is increased, the aggressive ability of leukemia cells may decrease, but the toxic side effects on normal bone marrow cells will also decrease.
