Features: Genetics is one of the most active fields in life sciences today. With the implementation and completion of the Human Genome Project, the importance of genetics is widely recognized. The fundamental knowledge and advancements in genetics are closely related to every individual and every medical discipline. Therefore, it is essential to popularize genetic knowledge among the general population and clinicians. Looking at the genetics books published in recent years, there are countless options. However, most of them are lengthy specialized works that are difficult to understand. It is rare to find a book that explains the basic principles of genetics in simple language, suitable for popularizing genetic knowledge among the general public, while also guiding clinical practice for physicians. This book helps doctors correctly conduct laboratory tests, genetic counseling, and prenatal diagnosis when facing specific diseases. Many patients with genetic diseases and their relatives do not know whether to seek genetic counseling, while doctors often face confusion about how to conduct genetic counseling when dealing with them. Genetics and Your Practice is a popular textbook used for genetic education for practicing doctors, nurses, and professionals in the United States. The book uses easy-to-understand language to explain some basic principles of medical genetics and, through specific examples, tells people how to apply genetic knowledge to serve health in daily life. In 2000, we translated this book into Chinese and used it as training material for the "Sino-U.S. Workshop on Prenatal Genetic Diagnosis and Newborn Screening in 2000," a national continuing medical education project. Today, prenatal screening has been widely implemented in major general hospitals and maternal and child health care hospitals across the country. Over the past six years, we have increasingly felt that this book is particularly suitable for popularizing genetic knowledge among the public and also for guiding clinical genetic practice for doctors. Therefore, we have contacted a publisher to publish the Chinese translation of this book and are happy to recommend it to everyone. The book explains some basic principles of medical genetics and, through specific examples, tells people how to apply genetic knowledge to serve health in daily life.
