How to distinguish newborn jaundice?

Patient's question:

My child had jaundice right after birth. I asked the doctor, and the doctor said there are many types of jaundice, and the differentiation between each type is not the same. But we didn't understand clearly, so now we want to consult on how to differentiate jaundice?

Doctor's answer:

If we can visually observe the yellowing of the skin to preliminarily determine the bilirubin level, it is approximately 6 mg/dL in the head and face; 9 mg/dL in the trunk; and about 15 mg/dL in the limbs and bones. If it exceeds the normal range, treatment should be administered based on the specific situation. Wishing the patient a speedy recovery!
