How can pulmonary hypertension be treated?

Patient's question:

Recently, I don't know why I've been feeling uncomfortable in my heart. Although I often take medication to control it, the effect is not obvious. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they also prescribed medication. How can pulmonary hypertension be treated?

Doctor's answer:

The treatment principles for different types of PAH vary. Correctly identifying the related diseases causing PAH and actively treating them are the primary measures for managing disease-related PAH. For example: PAH associated with connective tissue diseases should first be treated with hormones and immunosuppressants; PAH caused by drugs or toxins should first involve stopping the use of drugs or exposure to toxins. For PAH that directly affects pulmonary vascular function or structure, treatment primarily focuses on correcting or reversing pulmonary vascular changes. Currently available drugs in China include: prostacyclin (e.g., iloprost); endothelin-1 receptor antagonists (e.g., bosentan, ambrisentan); phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil). For severe PAH, interventional or surgical treatments may be considered.
