Features: Performance and performance teaching is an art with strong operational and practical characteristics, as well as a discipline rich in practical theoretical guidance. Performance Art Tutorial—Actor's Study Manual must focus on its practicality and usefulness while avoiding purely speculative generalizations, yet also avoiding being overly technical. It should particularly emphasize the theory, concepts, and methods for cultivating talented actors. This includes the scientific design of teaching materials, plays, and rehearsal operations. It is not only a summary of the author's nearly four decades of teaching experience but should also incorporate the decades of teaching experience and development from performance teaching in various art schools across China. It is a specialized work on performance teaching that integrates practice (operationality) with theory, tradition with modernity, stage performance with film and television performance, Chinese performance teaching with Soviet performance teaching, and the performance teaching systems of the UK and the US. It should be suitable for both formal institutional teaching and various levels of social education; it should serve as a teaching preparation tool for instructors, as well as a learning resource for students, including self-taught individuals and performance enthusiasts, covering a broad scope of performance tutorials.
Performance Art Tutorial—Actor's Study Manual includes three aspects of content, and the writing should integrate the performance operational system, performance theoretical system, and performance teaching material system into a unified, scientific, and coherent system. The writing must address the relationship between actual teaching operations and theoretical instruction; the connection between teaching plays and teaching materials and the development of actors of different types; and the balance between traditional foundational teaching and modern concepts and modern teaching methods. The book is structured into two parts: Part 1—Performance Theory, and Part 2—Teaching Practice. It can be read cover-to-cover or correspondingly. After reading Part 1, Chapter "Performance as an Art," correspondingly read Part 2, Chapter "Fundamental Performance Teaching." After reading Part 1, Chapter 2, "Creating Stage Character Images," then read Part 2, Chapter 2, "Shaping Stage Character Images." And so on. It should be a specialized work that is both accessible and profound, with a modern perspective, strong practicality, and a wide scope.
