Will hepatitis C be transmitted to little ones?

Patient's question:

Doctor, my little baby is almost 8 months old. During my pregnancy, I was tested positive for hepatitis C. Now my baby is breastfeeding. Yesterday, I had a tooth extraction, and the blood I swallowed may have been transmitted. Additionally, I might experience some minor bleeding today. I'm very worried about whether it could be transmitted to my baby. Will hepatitis C be transmitted to my baby?

Doctor's answer:

The treatment of hepatitis C, currently both domestically and internationally, is undoubtedly effective only with interferon, and it should be treated early. During the recovery period of acute hepatitis C, interferon is administered at a dose of 3 million units each time, three times a week, subcutaneously, for a duration of one year or even longer. Over 70% of patients can achieve complete recovery, which can significantly reduce the number of chronic hepatitis C patients. If timely treatment is not received during the acute phase, approximately 60% of infected individuals will develop chronic hepatitis C, and the possibility of cure afterward is very low. For chronic hepatitis C, in addition to interferon, virus tablets (0.15 grams per tablet, 0.3 grams each time, 3-4 times a day) can be taken simultaneously. It is recommended to start with a small dose to reduce gastrointestinal reactions.
