What should be done about in pregnant women

Patient's question:

I haven't had much energy recently and have been lying in bed, cared for by my family. The doctor said I have pregnancy-associated myasthenia gravis. I don't know how I got this disease—there were no warning signs at all. Now, the whole family is very panicked and doesn't know what to do. Is pregnancy-associated myasthenia gravis dangerous?

Doctor's answer:

Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease, currently believed to be caused by antibodies such as acetylcholine receptor antibodies leading to conduction disorders at the neuromuscular junction. It is characterized by progressive muscle weakness, worsening in the evening and improving after rest. Treatment mainly falls into two categories: one is cholinesterase inhibitors, which are symptomatic treatments that do not address the root cause but alleviate symptoms. The other is immunomodulatory or immunosuppressive therapy.
