Patient's question:
Doctor, I went to the hospital last week for a health check-up and got my report today. The urine test results showed negative protein in urine. I heard from a friend a long time ago that negative protein in urine is a sign of nephritis. Is that correct?Doctor's answer:
A negative result for protein in the urine is considered a normal test result. If the test shows a weak positive result or a result of 1+ or higher, it usually indicates an abnormality in most cases. This could be due to conditions such as a urinary tract infection, urinary tract stones, renal tuberculosis, renal clear cell carcinoma, post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy, hypertensive nephropathy, systemic lupus erythematosus nephritis, or multiple myeloma nephropathy. These conditions can all cause varying degrees of proteinuria.
