Does facial nerve palsy need acupuncture?

Patient's question:

A while ago, the doctor told me that facial paralysis was caused by wind entering through empty meridians, which was brought on by anger and excitement, leading to internal fire and lack of nourishment in the meridians. Although I didn't quite understand the meaning, I felt that my face seemed to lose sensation. After acupuncture treatment, it is said to be quite effective.

Doctor's answer:

Bell's Palsy - Facial Nerve Palsy has two types. The facial nerve central lesion originates from the central nervous system, such as neuroglial surgery, post-stroke, or post-cerebral hemorrhage. The peripheral facial nerve lesion is mostly caused by viral infection. Acupuncture for facial palsy primarily involves needling the affected side of the face. In some cases, the distal part can be needled on the contralateral upper limb. Medication can be used in conjunction with acupuncture. Electrical therapy can also be combined with acupuncture for rehabilitation. Standardized treatment is recommended, with a treatment cycle typically starting around two weeks after onset. Wishing the patient a speedy recovery and good health!
