Features: I graduated from National Central University (Chongqing, Nanjing) in 1948. After the liberation, I worked in the Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Committee and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences for many years. Later, I taught economics at Nanjing Agricultural University and Tsinghua University in Beijing for over two decades. Subsequently, I was transferred to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to conduct research on population for more than ten years. I served as a professor at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and deputy director of the Institute of Population Studies, while also concurrently serving as the director of the Population Department of the Graduate School. I enjoy special national subsidies. My main research fields are urbanization and population migration, as well as population development and changes in family structure. My writings adhere to historical materialism, focus on China's cultural traditions, and combine with the national conditions of economic and social transformation. I widely apply theoretical methods from disciplines such as demography, economics, development economics, and sociology. I analyze field survey data, compare with corresponding historical data, focus on summarizing experience and generalizing theory, evaluate current policies, and propose decision-making recommendations, with research outcomes of practical significance. I have undertaken and participated in multiple national social science key research projects, UN-assisted projects, Canadian-assisted projects, China-Australia cooperative research projects, and domestic cooperative research projects. I have led and participated in five population field surveys, written monographs and papers, and published over one million words in Chinese and English. This collection includes more than twenty papers, divided into three parts: urbanization, population migration, and population development and changes in family structure.
