Features: With the further deepening of reform and opening-up, the legal system construction in our country is advancing by leaps and bounds. More and more people in China are engaged in legal work, especially in foreign-related legal fields. They not only need to read and translate English books and texts related to laws but also often encounter situations where they must translate Chinese legal texts into English in their actual work. Therefore, we have compiled this Bilingual English-Chinese and Chinese-English Legal Dictionary.
This dictionary is a medium-sized professional legal reference tool, primarily intended for use by legal professionals, business and trade personnel, foreign affairs staff, translators, and college/university legal students. Its content covers various legal disciplines, including legal theory, legal history, constitutional law, civil law, criminal law, procedural law, administrative law, labor law, contract law, commercial law, public international law, private international law, international economic law, and international trade law.
To facilitate readers in finding corresponding translations from both English and Chinese perspectives when reading English originals or translating legal documents, we have adopted a bilingual (English-Chinese and Chinese-English) arrangement. The English-Chinese section contains approximately 36,000 entries, while the Chinese-English section contains approximately 29,000 entries. Our compilation principles are as follows: Based on the practical needs of legal work, the selection of terms aims to be comprehensive and diverse while also being concise, practical, and highlighting key points. The definitions are designed to be brief, accurate, and standardized. When an entry has two or more translations, we have included them as appropriate.
In terms of layout and design, the English-Chinese section follows the conventions of other specialized dictionaries, while the Chinese-English section attempts a compact and eye-catching new model to enhance readability. During the compilation process, we have learned and drawn inspiration from numerous professional books and dictionaries published domestically and internationally. We extend our gratitude to all for their contributions.
This dictionary has been revised multiple times to strive for perfection, but due to the compilers' limitations, it may still fall short of expectations. Omissions, errors, and mistakes are inevitable. A dictionary should be continuously updated and improved. We sincerely hope that (the broad readership and experts) will kindly provide criticism and suggestions so that this dictionary may maintain its vitality through ongoing revisions and supplements.
