Wuzhen - Ship's bow

Author: Zhong Guisong
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2007-01-01
Features: The authors focus on the rural Jiangnan, meticulously crafting a unique scroll of urban culture. It should be said that people are not unfamiliar with Jiangnan towns. According to the incomplete statistics of a town history scholar, nearly 700 academic papers on town history were published domestically between 1980 and 1999, with over 500 on regional town history, of which Jiangnan accounted for nearly half. However, a closer examination reveals that works centered on culture or approaching town community life from a cultural perspective are relatively scarce; especially, the heavy academic tone permeating them makes them unappealing to general readers. The editors and authors who contributed to this series are far from qualified scholars, so the authors deliberately blend profound theories into accessible language, using vivid writing to interpret elusive life rules and dynamic images to enliven rigid text. In short, they strive to restore the authentic state of cultural existence. There are too many famous towns in Jiangnan, and the first eight to enter our view are Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Dongshan, Luzhi, Shengze, Nanxun, Xitang, and Wuzhen.
