Patient's question:
I have chronic hepatitis and have been taking Entecavir for 3 years. This is the recent detailed checkup report. Can you help me take a look at these test reports to see if they are normal?Doctor's answer:
In patients with benign liver diseases such as acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, etc., the level of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) can decrease to varying degrees, but the majority remain above 1000 μg/L. The extent of the decrease is related to the degree of hepatocyte necrosis and regeneration. In patients with primary liver cancer, 60-70% of cases exhibit elevated AFP levels. Additionally, AFP levels may also rise in patients with pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, ovarian tumors, malignant teratomas, and lung cancer. In benign liver lesions, the elevation of AFP is usually transient, lasting 2-3 weeks, whereas in malignant tumors, AFP levels tend to persistently decline. Dynamic and meticulous monitoring of serum AFP can help differentiate between benign and malignant liver diseases, as well as facilitate early diagnosis of liver cancer.
