Is there a relationship between spider angiomas and liver disease? Is this a spider angioma?

Patient's question:

Is this a spider angioma? Is it related to liver disease?

Doctor's answer:

The recurrence of this condition may be related to elevated estrogen levels. The presence of spider angiomas does not necessarily indicate liver disease. Females in their puberty are in a peak growth and development stage, with high estrogen levels in their bodies, which may lead to the reappearance of some spider angiomas. This is a normal physiological phenomenon. Additionally, spider angiomas can be seen in normal women during pregnancy. After conception, estrogen levels in the body continue to rise, causing spider angiomas to reappear on the skin of a small portion of pregnant women. Therefore, the reappearance of spider angiomas should not be solely considered a symptom of liver cirrhosis. Normal physiological conditions or other diseases should also be taken into account. For patients, if liver disease is severe, immediate symptomatic treatment and appropriate medication should be administered. Otherwise, it may lead to a recurrence of liver disease.
