Reviews:
When I received The Adventures of a Foolish Dog, I didn’t know I would cry. Tears streamed down like a child who wants to jump over the kindergarten fence, so joyful and unrestrained. My heart, already burdened with work, was suddenly warmed by a ray of sunlight in a cold room. My eyes ached, unable to bear the scorching heat, and tears fell. — Anyiru (Writer)
Those who can feel the joy and struggles of life, who can give love and care to pets, who can unconditionally respect a poor farmer, or who have a keen sensitivity in their souls will be deeply moved by this story. On the last page of the book, I couldn’t stop crying. This eternal story belongs to everyone. — Bizer (American book critic)
This story has a core like a diamond, shining brightly. — Esther (Founder of Xiaoshu Fang's Children's Literature Network)
Recently, I’ve been subjected to stares and cold remarks when walking my dog outside. After reading this story, I was greatly encouraged. Both dog lovers and haters should read it. — Ajia (Children's book expert and founder of Hongniuba Children's Village)
Now, everything is old—the windmills, the mills, the bells—everything is gone, but the old man, the child, the dog, and the story itself have not aged or died. It is because of the deep love and courage, faith and perseverance it holds that, in this imperfect world, it lives longer than anything else. — Chi He (Ph.D. in children's literature)
Fairy tales are often simple, but the simplest stories are often the most penetrating. Therefore, when The Adventures of a Foolish Dog becomes a classic and spreads widely around the world, it still evokes feelings of kindness and compassion. — Yang Xiaozhou (Book critic)
Nilo is an orphan who lives with his elderly grandmother, struggling to make a living by selling milk. By chance, they adopt a mistreated large dog named Patch, and the touching story between the boy and the dog begins. To help the family, Patch pulls their cart every day, accompanying Nilo to the city. Though poor, Nilo possesses extraordinary artistic talent and dreams of becoming a great painter like Rubens. He deeply loves a beautiful girl named Alois, whose father is the wealthiest person in the village and refuses to let her associate with such a poor boy. Humiliated, Nilo tries to stay away from Alois, often hiding in a small shed to meticulously create his best work, preparing to enter the juvenile painting competition in Antwerp in December and win the championship.
However, misfortune follows one after another. His grandmother falls seriously ill, making their lives even harder, and a fire breaks out in the village, with everyone suspecting Nilo of being the arsonist. In the bitter cold of a stormy night, his grandmother dies of poverty, unable to pay rent, and the landlord demands Nilo leave the small shack he calls home. On the eve of Christmas, only the aging Patch remains, his unwavering loyalty, and they wander the streets in despair.
