Can I get mycoplasma pneumonia again after having it?

Patient's question:

If I have had Mycoplasma pneumonia before, can I get it again? I used to have Mycoplasma pneumonia when I was a child, but now I have developed cough again, and there is a slight pain sensation near the sternum. I don't know if the pain is caused by the cough or by the pneumonia. But I feel sad that I have gotten pneumonia again.

Doctor's answer:

For this condition of illness onset, it cannot be completely ruled out. If the patient's cough is currently quite noticeable, the first consideration is the possibility of a respiratory infection, which is often caused by microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, or mycoplasma. This does not rule out the possibility of pneumonia, but it cannot be diagnosed at this time. It is recommended to go to the respiratory department of a regular hospital for blood tests, mycoplasma antibody tests, C-reactive protein tests, chest X-rays, and other thorough examinations to diagnose and treat according to the doctor's advice.
