Features: This issue includes the newly annotated editions of four medical books by Chen Xiuyuan: Shanghan Lun Qian Zhu (A Brief Annotation of the Shanghan Lun), Shanghan Lun Jue Chuan Jie (A Compendious Explanation of the Shanghan Lun), Jin Gui Yao Lue Qian Zhu (A Brief Annotation of the Jin Gui Yao Lue), and Nu Ke Yao Zhi (Essentials of Gynecology). Shanghan Lun Qian Zhu is one of his representative works. The entire book consists of six volumes. It reflects Chen's academic thought of "opposing disordered arrangement and upholding the original theory," particularly demonstrating his learning approach of revering ancient wisdom without rigidly adhering to it. It serves as an important reference for studying the Shanghan Lun. Shanghan Lun Jue Chuan Jie was written by Chen in his later years, serving as another elucidation of the key principles of the Shanghan Lun after his Shanghan Lun Qian Zhu. Based on the theory of the Neijing (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) and grounded in the concepts of root, manifestation, and middle Qi, as well as meridian theory, the book employs a comprehensive and deductive method to analyze the six meridian syndromes and six methods of prescription in the Shanghan Lun. It not only explains the interrelationships and distinctions between the passages but also highlights the key points of syndrome differentiation, enabling learners to grasp the essence. This book is a culmination of Chen's lifelong research on the Shanghan Lun and holds certain academic value, making it a valuable reference for studying the Shanghan Lun. Jin Gui Yao Lue Qian Zhu consists of 10 volumes and 25 chapters, primarily discussing the syndromes and treatments of various traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) (heterogeneous diseases), including malaria, stroke, consumptive diseases, pulmonary atrophy, lung abscess, cough, diabetes, and carbuncle. It also covers gynecological conditions such as pregnancy and postpartum diseases. Nu Ke Yao Zhi, a posthumous work by Chen Xiuyuan, is divided into four volumes and provides detailed discussions on regulating menstruation, conception, prenatal care, postpartum care, miscellaneous diseases, and common surgical conditions in women. It serves as a reference for studying TCM gynecology.
