What is bullous lung disease?

Patient's question:

A few days ago, I felt particularly unwell. Then, I went to the local hospital for a comprehensive check-up. The doctor diagnosed me with a condition called pulmonary bullae. I don't know what pulmonary bullae is. The local doctor didn't explain it very clearly to me either. He only told me that surgery is the treatment method. I would like to ask for some clarification: What exactly is pulmonary bullae? Is surgery really necessary?

Doctor's answer:

When mentioning bullae, some people may not understand it, or they might not have even heard of it. In fact, it is a common lung disease. Patients often suffer from conditions such as bronchitis and pneumonia, and in severe cases, they may develop fever and chills. Therefore, it can cause significant harm to the patient's body. Due to the recurrence of bullae, fluid accumulation, insufficient food intake, dehydration, as well as heart, liver, especially respiratory and kidney dysfunction, often lead to secondary neuron water, electrolyte, and acid-base imbalance. These are all important factors that affect the efficacy and prognosis. Therefore, it is crucial not to ignore the disease of bullae. In the early stages of the condition, it is usually curable, so patients should not be too anxious or stressed. Early detection and treatment are very important.
