Painful gout even after taking colchicine

Patient's question:

In the past, I didn't experience any symptoms of leg or foot pain again. But recently, I've been feeling severe pain in my ankle, to the point where I can't even move when walking. It hurts a lot. After getting tested at the hospital, they said it's gout. Even after taking colchicine for gout, the pain still persists. What should I do?

Doctor's answer:

If the pain from gout persists even after taking colchicine, you may consider using some antipyretic and analgesic drugs to alleviate the symptoms. You can also go to the hospital for uric acid testing. If the uric acid level remains elevated, you may consider using other medications to lower uric acid levels, or drink more water to enhance uric acid metabolism. Patients with gout should increase their intake of seafood, otherwise the condition may persistently worsen.
