Features: Journal of East Asian Linguistics primarily focuses on East Asian languages as its research subjects. Its purpose is to study language using the general principles of linguistics and to enrich these principles by discovering patterns from the unique phenomena in these languages. Linguistics is an empirical science, starting from the empirical world. From a vast amount of linguistic material, it identifies universal phenomena, summarizes rules, proposes hypotheses, forms theories, and provides deeper explanations. Linguistics is an immature empirical science that requires more exploration and innovation. From this perspective, the journal focuses more on posing and solving problems, welcoming new materials, new perspectives, and new interpretations. Journal of East Asian Linguistics provides a testing ground for researchers studying East Asian languages. It is not closed off but rather open to the world. The study of East Asian languages should, like other languages and researchers, focus on and engage in the study of linguistic universals, contributing its unique resources—such as a long continuous historical record, diverse language families, and complex relationships between language dialects—to the development of more general and universal theories of general linguistics.
