Patient's question:

First upper gastrointestinal bleeding, (November 25, 2009), had 3 episodes of bleeding around March 2010, and underwent a spleenectomy + devascularization surgery on July 17. The surgery was performed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University.

Doctor's answer:

This disease is a common chronic liver condition that can be caused by one or multiple different factors leading to liver damage, resulting in progressive, diffuse, and fibrotic liver lesions. Pay attention to dietary adjustments, avoiding overeating. It is recommended to provide patients with a high-protein, high-vitamin, high-calorie diet that contains sufficient fat and is easily digestible. Generally, a daily intake of 10,460 to 11,715 kilojoules of energy, 100 to 120 grams of protein, and no more than 30 to 50 grams of fat is provided. The patient should be given 3 to 5 meals per day. If liver function significantly deteriorates, or blood ammonia levels are high, or there are early signs of hepatic encephalopathy, protein intake should be strictly controlled, not exceeding 20 to 30 grams per day. For patients with ascites, the diet should be low-sodium or salt-free. Limit fluid intake, generally not exceeding 1,000 milliliters per day.
