Features: Turgenev elevates real life through refinement. Gorasim is a mute serf, immensely strong and naturally serious. Beneath his clumsy and taciturn exterior lies a sensitive, gentle heart yearning for warmth. The gentle and kind laundrywoman Tatyana is his beloved, but unfortunately, she is betrothed to a drunkard by the tyrannical landlady and is forced to leave. To compensate for his lost love, Gorasim adopts a small dog named Moomoo, pouring all his affection into it. Yet even this meager comfort is not tolerated by the mistress. Eventually, Gorasim is forced to drown Moomoo, and with a heart full of resentment, he returns to his hometown.
