Features: Most European general histories in the market focus on political or philosophical thought history. The former centers on dynasties or regions, with a primary emphasis on Western Europe, while the latter emphasizes the contributions of individual thinkers. The unique feature of this book lies in its macro perspective, honestly discussing the origins and development of European history, including the formation of Christian thought and its later integration with Islamic thought. It traces the roots of modern European thought and provides intellectual resources and historical experiences for reflecting on today's "globalization" landscape.
Features of the Book: It combines the history of philosophy and social thought, delving into all levels and corners of European society, emphasizing the connections and interpenetration between elite intellectual circles and grassroots popular culture. It breaks away from the Eurocentric historical view, focusing on the thought and culture of Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Spain, and the Low Countries of Northwest Europe. It highlights the conflicts and interactions between Western Europe and other regions of Europe in terms of thought and culture, revealing the historical origins of today's European intellectual landscape. It underscores the role of Arab and Greek pagan cultures in shaping the entire European intellectual and cultural fabric. This provides important intellectual resources for understanding the regional diversity and historical complexity of European culture, thereby overcoming the limitations of a linear intellectual history organized chronologically by era.
