What are the causes of fatty liver?

Patient's question:

A while ago during a health check-up, many of my colleagues were found to have fatty liver disease, while I was lucky enough to escape unscathed and not have fatty liver disease. I wonder what the causes of fatty liver disease are?

Doctor's answer:

There is evidence that approximately 30% of alcoholic fatty liver can progress to cirrhosis; about 1.5% to 8.0% of non-alcoholic fatty liver can advance to cirrhosis. In addition to causing cirrhosis, fatty liver can also conspire with conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and abnormal blood lipids. It can lead to coronary heart disease. Due to different dietary habits and other causes leading to fatty liver, it is generally classified into obesity-related fatty liver, post-hepatitis fatty liver, alcoholic fatty liver, malnutrition-related fatty liver, and drug-induced fatty liver. In fact, having fatty liver is not; patients should believe that they can overcome the disease. As long as timely treatment is provided at an early stage, the chances of alleviating the condition and recovering are very high.
