What does a positive hepatitis B antibody mean?

Patient's question:

All Symptoms
Hello, I have a positive core antibody result in my hepatitis B test. What does this mean?

Doctor's answer:

A positive result for hepatitis B core antibody indicates that you have previously been infected with the hepatitis B virus. Since most infections are asymptomatic, you may not have been aware of the infection. Currently, due to your strong immune response, the virus has been eliminated, or it is about to be completely eradicated. This is considered normal. The vast majority of cases are non-infectious, while a very small number may be infectious. To determine if there is infectivity, you can check the amount of hepatitis B DNA. If it is positive, it means you are infectious; if it is negative, you are not infectious. Regardless of whether you are infectious or not, treatment is not required.
