Patient's question:
During the company's health check, it was found that I had hepatitis. My wife always scares me by saying that hepatitis can easily spread to liver cancer. Is she lying to me? Is hepatitis really easy to spread to liver cancer?Doctor's answer:
It cannot be said that hepatitis B can transform into liver cancer; instead, it should be stated that hepatitis B is a risk factor for liver cancer or that hepatitis B may lead to liver cancer. Since more than 90% of liver cancers have a background of hepatitis B, but this constitutes only a small portion of the hepatitis B carrier population. Not all individuals with hepatitis B will necessarily develop liver cancer again. By appropriately suppressing the hepatitis B virus, the probability of liver cancer recurrence can be reduced. It is recommended to undergo periodic retesting for hepatitis B DNA, alpha-fetoprotein, and ultrasound to monitor the hepatitis B status. If the viral load is high, standard antiviral treatment should be administered.
