In recent times, the veneration of wolves and wolf culture has become a trend. It must be admitted that there is indeed a need and market for Chinese people and traditional Chinese culture to learn from the personality of wolves and the culture of wolf packs. Traditionally, we have ignored and even rejected the aggressive and team-oriented nature of wolves. From this perspective, it is undeniable that we can gain much spiritual nourishment from wolves. However, this book does not merely aim to praise the wolf nature and wolf culture as some previous books have done, advocating for their study. The fundamental purpose of this book is not to depict the strengths of wolves or the superiority of wolf culture, but to objectively analyze wolves from both their positive and negative aspects and to view wolf culture from a practical perspective. We must acknowledge that many people's current veneration of wolf nature and wolf culture still focuses on describing their merits, advocating for learning from wolves in slogans, while rarely providing practical real-world references and actionable methods. This is the greatest flaw of many wolf-related books today. Additionally, we must understand that when we promote an aggressive spirit and team spirit in the name of wolves, it is merely a different way of using wolves as a medium, rehashing the spirit of wealth through the culture of grassland wolves. The competitive spirit and risk-taking spirit of a market economy, as well as the team culture of modern enterprises, are already well-known in the context of market enlightenment, the rise of successology, and the overwhelming influence of Western management knowledge, which advocates for a culture of entrepreneurship. Now, it is merely being re-introduced from a historical perspective and with a new medium. We can see many shadows of Max Weber's "Protestant Spirit" in the current wolf nature and wolf culture, and we can see the shadows of early-stage capitalist primitive accumulation in the specific wolf traits and actions. From this, we need to learn many positive and advantageous things. This is also the objective reason why wolves have become a "totem" today. We must learn from the personality and culture of wolves while transcending their negativity and flaws, so that we can leverage the advantages of being learners. Otherwise, we will only be repeating the history of wolves. The tenacity and resilience of wolves, their team spirit, their bloodthirst, and their mindset of the strong—all of these are indeed worth learning. However, the bloodlust of wolves, their territorialism, and their simplistic combat ideology are things we must avoid.
Returning to the topic of enterprises and organizations, we can see that wolves can indeed achieve victory through their aggression and team tactics, but such victories are more like a situation where one side gains everything while the other loses everything, only making countless enemies and finding little support outside the wolf pack. This is a simple approach to competition that ignores cooperation and value chains. It is also necessary to remind some fervent followers of wolves not to blindly imitate or copycat them, for wolves themselves do not create value—they live by plunder. Is it acceptable for today's enterprises to operate in the same way? Of course, while the main content of this book focuses on these points, it is by no means limited to them. Specific viewpoints, arguments, and methods can be found in the main text.
