Romeo and Juliet - Representative Novels of Famous Contemporary Chinese Writers

Author: Fei Ning
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2007-01-01
Features: In the 1950s and 1960s, our publishing house organized a nationwide selection of outstanding long novels, showcasing the style and level of long novel creation at that time. After the New Period, the number of long novels surged, with themes, styles, and techniques becoming increasingly diverse. To more comprehensively reflect the achievements of long novel creation during this era, in May 2004, we edited and published the series "Representative Works of Famous Contemporary Chinese Novelists," featuring the works of twenty-five writers. These works excelled in depth, uniqueness, evoking strong responses, or were widely favored by readers. The series received positive social feedback after publication. For this re-publication, we adjusted the original series' selection, added more works, and included those that won the Mao Dun Literature Prize in the "Complete Collection of Mao Dun Literature Prize Winners." As a result, the "Representative Works of Famous Contemporary Chinese Novelists" series now offers a more complete and comprehensive selection, aligning with our previously published "Contemporary Chinese Long Novel Collection" and "Complete Collection of Mao Dun Literature Prize Winners," creating a cohesive and complementary reading experience. This allows readers to gain a clearer understanding of the development trajectory and overall style of long novel creation in China since the founding of the People's Republic from different stages and perspectives. This book is Fei Ning's long novel, as well as her most impactful and influential work. It is also a quintessential female novel, a true work of female awakening, and a novel that is enduring, timeless, and resistant to the wear of time. The writing style of the novel challenges traditional narrative models and aesthetic experiences, successfully portraying three female characters—Si Yiwen among them—depicting the different fates and complex emotions of three generations of women in this family, as well as their tragic life experiences.
