Features: Folk is a branch of folk literature. It includes folk tales, folk songs, myths, and other folk literary works. Folk literature refers to literary works created by a group or generation of non-professional writers; as shown by folk literary works both at home and abroad, they are often polished, improved, or expanded by non-professional writers over many generations. They are often led by a talented and renowned folk writer, who guides the editing and writing process. To cater to the tastes of most people in different eras, these famous folk literary works continuously expand and absorb new nourishment from later generations, such as The Peacock Flying to the East, Meng Jiangnu, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, The Ballad of Mulan, and The Legend of the White Snake. Among them, The Peacock Flying to the East was written in the late Han Dynasty but was finalized during the Northern Qi Dynasty (around 540). Both The Peacock Flying to the East and The Ballad of Mulan are written in poetic form. This book selects four great ancient Chinese folk tales: The Legend of the White Snake, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, Cowherd and Weaver Girl, and Meng Jiangnu, and translates them into English, providing a bilingual (Chinese-English) edition. The aim is to further promote the essence of traditional Chinese folk tales. In addition to the stories themselves, the editor introduces the origins of each tale. It is highly readable.
