Is it serious to carry the hepatitis B virus?

Patient's question:

Last month, during the factory health check, I found out that I am a carrier of the hepatitis B virus. I went for a liver function test yesterday, and everything was normal. The doctor said there's no need for treatment. Is this considered a disease? What should I do?

Doctor's answer:

A hepatitis B carrier refers to someone who is infected with the hepatitis B virus but does not exhibit symptoms or signs of hepatitis, and all liver function tests are normal. They have been followed up for more than three times within a year, with serum ALT and AST levels within the normal range, and liver histology generally shows no significant abnormalities. In simple terms, it means they are infected with hepatitis B but do not have liver inflammation. This does not require treatment. It is estimated that 10% of the population are hepatitis B carriers, so you should not feel any pressure. This is absolutely and never contagious. Currently, the treatment for hepatitis B carriers in China primarily involves antiviral therapy, immune function adjustment, and anti-fibrosis treatment.
