Features: The Han Dynasty was the peak period in the history of Chinese calligraphy. The Han Dynasty inherited the system of the Qin Dynasty, with official documents of the court primarily using seal script, while the common people and lower-level officials used clerical script. Because clerical script was simpler and more convenient than seal script, as well as faster to write and more practical, it possessed a vibrant vitality. This led to the upper ruling class using clerical script in edicts, inscriptions on stone and metal, and official documents, promoting the development of the script and making clerical script the dominant style of calligraphy in the Han Dynasty.
