Features: Since its publication, Guidance and Practice for Extracurricular Modern Chinese Reading for Junior High School has been widely welcomed by Chinese language teachers and students. In response to the demands of educators and students, as well as the need to adapt to the reforms of the junior high school Chinese "college entrance examination" (Zhongkao), we have comprehensively revised the seventh-grade, eighth-grade, and ninth-grade volumes in line with the spirit of the "New Curriculum Standards." The revised edition is now back in print.
The new edition of Guidance and Practice for Extracurricular Modern Chinese Reading for Junior High School features fresh content, innovative training angles, and new question types, accurately reflecting the requirements of the "New Curriculum Standards" and the "Zhongkao" for modern Chinese reading. It fully reflects the characteristics of the 2007 Zhongkao question types, making it an essential resource for junior high students' modern Chinese reading training. It is also the ideal guide for junior high Chinese teachers to assist students in "reading training."
The Guidance and Practice for Extracurricular Modern Chinese Reading for Junior High School series is divided into three volumes: seventh grade, eighth grade, and ninth grade. Each volume includes a "Teaching Objectives Outline" aligned with the "Curriculum Standards," as well as "Reading Guidance" and "Reading Practice" sections tailored to the training focus of each grade level.
The "Reading Guidance" section provides theoretical guidance along with targeted training exercises. These exercises are closely tied to the guidance provided and offer slight expansions to reinforce, consolidate, and enhance understanding.
The "Reading Practice" section carefully selects engaging and thought-provoking articles that blend life philosophy, literary quality, and educational value. These articles are organized into units based on genre—literary works (essays, fiction), narrative texts, expository texts, and argumentative texts—as required by the curriculum. They serve as guides for reading and model texts for students to emulate in their writing.
The question types in this book expand upon the original four levels—"Recognition," "Comprehension," "Analysis," and "Summarization"—by adding "Questioning" and "Appreciation" questions commonly found in Zhongkao Chinese exams. Additionally, "open-ended" questions have been incorporated. Following some typical questions, "answer-revealing" hints are provided to guide students in solving problems. "Reading Tips" are added at the end of each article to help students grasp the overall content.
These question types are highly practical for both regular training and Zhongkao preparation. Furthermore, the book includes two new training sections: "Exploring Difficulties" and "Language Application." The "Exploring Difficulties" section features more flexible questions that connect to students' real-life experiences, while the "Language Application" section reflects the characteristics of the 2007 Zhongkao question types, offering greater value for exam preparation.
Practice has shown that the speed and extent of improvement in junior high students' modern Chinese reading skills depend on whether they undergo progressive and in-depth training. The most crucial factor in this training is the selection of "reading materials." This book fills this gap with its rich content, clear training objectives, innovative question types, and strong targeting, perfectly combining perceptual reading, rational analysis, and skill training.
