What does the hepatitis B virus represent?

Patient's question:

A while ago, someone in my company seemed to be suffering from hepatitis B and hasn't come to work during this period. It's said that they are being treated. I'm very concerned and decided to get a check-up. The result showed a positive hepatitis B surface antigen. I'd like to ask the experts what this means. Thank you.

Doctor's answer:

If you were healthy before but are experiencing this again now, it should be early acute hepatitis B or the incubation period of acute hepatitis B, with the virus present in your body but at a low copy level. If this condition persists, you may be a chronic hepatitis B carrier, but with relatively low transmissibility. Get your liver function and DNA checked. If both are abnormal, antiviral treatment can be administered. If both are normal, the effectiveness of antiviral treatment will be minimal. Your condition is not severe, so pay attention to avoiding beer, smoking, overtime work, and maintaining a light diet instead of a greasy one. Avoid taking medications indiscriminately.
