How is chronic hepatitis B treated?

Patient's question:

Discovered in 2008 that I was a carrier of the hepatitis B virus. During this period, I've been feeling very tired all the time. Is it possible that an old illness is coming back again?

Doctor's answer:

The chronic hepatitis B virus carriers we usually refer to are in the immune tolerance phase. This phase is not recommended for treatment. There are no effective methods for treating this phase. It is advised to check liver function and liver/bile ultrasound. If liver function is normal and ultrasound results are largely normal, it is better to delay treatment, as treatment at this stage is almost ineffective and may even increase liver pressure. If there are abnormalities, the treatment plan should be determined based on the specific abnormal items and the degree of abnormality. Some people are good at antiviral treatment, and it is recommended that patients start treatment immediately, with the hope that they can follow the doctor's advice for symptomatic treatment.
