How to measure blood pressure to be normal?

Patient's question:

Most people develop high blood pressure as they age, and my uncle is also in this mid-to-old age stage. I'd like to ask on his behalf, how is high blood pressure measured?

Doctor's answer:

After measuring blood pressure with a sphygmomanometer, if the systolic pressure reaches 110 mmHg or higher, or the diastolic pressure reaches 90 mmHg or higher, it may indicate hypertension. Generally, hypertension is related to age, and older individuals may experience some degree of blood pressure decline. In most cases, this is not a significant issue. If the blood pressure is not very high, medication combined with lifestyle adjustments can often manage it. However, if the blood pressure is severely elevated and leads to complications, hospitalization for close monitoring and treatment may be necessary.
