In the past 10 years, urban ecological construction and landscape greening in China have developed rapidly and have attracted widespread attention from the whole society. To meet the needs of landscape architecture development in the 21st century, many universities and vocational schools have introduced landscape architecture and specialized programs. Landscape Tree Science is one of the core courses in this field and serves as an important foundation for Landscape Ecology, Landscape Nursery Science, Landscape Planning and Design, and Landscape Maintenance Management. In recent years, Guangdong Province, especially the Pearl River Delta region, has introduced a large number of excellent plants from domestic and international sources, but this information has not been included in the edition of the textbook. Based on the characteristics and needs of landscape tree science teaching in various schools, this textbook has been supplemented and revised on the basis of the previous edition, expanding its scope of application. The second edition collects 686 species of landscape trees, belonging to 76 families and 254 genera, with 281 illustrations. The determination of plant names has referenced not only Illustrations of Higher Plants in China, Flora of Hainan, Flora of Guangdong, and Illustrations of Trees in China, but also recently published academic works such as Higher Plants in China and Hong Kong Plant Checklist.
