Is diabetic ketoacidosis serious?

Patient's question:

My diabetes has been diagnosed for over two years, and it hasn't been very painful, so is your diabetes ketoacidosis severe?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, clinical manifestations include extreme thirst, significant dehydration in urine, extreme fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and extremely poor appetite. In a small number of patients, the pain is diffuse and non-fixed abdominal pain, sometimes severe, resembling surgical acute abdomen but without abdominal muscle tension and only mild pressure headache. The mental state is lethargic or irritable, consciousness gradually blurs, and eventually anorexia and confusion occur. In severe acidosis, there is a deep and large breathing frequency without respiratory difficulties, and exhalation has a fruity odor.
